This is a playable graybox exercising rational level design, namely the progression of challenge throughout the level supporting flow.

What I achieved in this piece includes:

  • Creating gameplay areas that accommodate existing gameplay metrics, control scheme and camera.

  • Introducing and interleaving 8 gameplay mechanics throughout the level's progression. (Teach, Test, Challenge)

  • ​Conceptualizing purposeful level design geometry that supports and contextualizes the game's mechanics.

  • Designing a well-defined path that guides the player in the right direction throughout the level.

  • Including a variety of pathing options, including main, alternative, failure and bonus paths.

  • Balancing risk and reward and offering progression signifiers with strategic collectable placement.

  • Ensuring complete and functional level enclosure.

  • Preparing questions and engaging in play test and focus test sessions, processing feedback.
